The first ever annual plan for proactive government communication was published in 2012/13.
It showed that our overall headcount for departmental communication staff has dropped from 3,438 in 2009/10 to 2,022 at the start of 2012/13 – a reduction of nearly 40 per cent.
We have also cut our spend on communications – our spend through the Central Office of Information dropped from £532m in 2009/10 to £168m in 2010/2011.
Also included in today’s plan is our estimate of communication spend for the 2012/13 of £284m.
